Identity Crisis at the 55 Bar!!!

As some of you know, I have a band called The Identity Crisis that I co-lead with drummer Joe Abbatantuono, who also plays with me in The Bjorkestra.  It has evolved into a hip hop/jazz fusion project since our first gigs three years ago, with a great cast of musicians.  We’ve been trying to get the band into the 55 Bar in NYC for the past year or so…it is one of the best rooms in NYC to hear the sort of music we are playing, and it’s also incredibly competitive because everyone and their grandmother is trying to get in there.  Last week we finally got our lucky break! We were scheduled to play at The Shrine in Harlem this coming Thursday, but our saxophonist Sean Nowell got offered a gig at the 55 Bar that same night, and he graciously offered The Identity Crisis his time slot there.  After a few phone calls/emails it was a done deal, and we are extremely excited to finally be performing at the 55 with this music.

As a little sneak preview, check out this video of The Identity Crisis with Krussia (a true force of nature!).

Here’s the lineup for the show on July 22nd, 10pm-1am : Shayna Steele, vocals; Krussia, beatboxing and rap; me, alto saxophone; Joe Abbatantuono, drums; Sean Nowell, tenor saxophone; Jarrett Cherner, keys; Richard Hammond, bass.  The cover charge is usually $15 on a Thursday…

The Identity Crisis performs a lot of my own tunes and a couple of my arrangements (including Prince’s “Slow Love” which Shayna completely rocks!), but Shayna, Joe, and Sean also contribute some of their beautiful originals as well.  It’s going to be great! Hope you can make it!
