Travis Sullivan to release his debut CD “New Directions” on Posi-Tone Records, May 17th!

I am delighted to announce the upcoming release of The Travis Sullivan Quartet’s new CD “New Directions” on Posi-Tone Records next month on May 17.  This album is the first that I have recorded with a small ensemble in over 10 years, and as the title of the CD suggests, it represents shifting gears from The Bjorkestra and exploring my creative voice as a saxophonist and composer.

The CD will include 10 tunes consisting of 8 of my original compositions, an arrangement of the jazz standard “Spring is Here,” and my rendition of the Tears for Fears classic “Everybody Wants to Rule the World.” In addition to myself on alto sax, Mike Eckroth is on piano, Marco Panascia plays bass, and Brian Fishler is on the drums.  I’m incredibly pleased with the overall performance and sound of this recording, and extremely grateful to Nick O’Toole and Marc Free at Posi-Tone for the opportunity to record and release my music.

Also, a couple of special mentions: to my parents Robert and Jane Sullivan, who not only shower me with love and support, but also fronted me the money to pay the musicians for the recording session! And to my love Jamia Wilson, who is my muse and inspiration for the first track on the CD – “Jamia’s Dance.”
